Federal Reserve Board of Governors member Lael Brainard, journalist and author Jose Antonio Vargas, and Beneficial State Bank CEO Kat Taylor will be among the featured speakers at the Just Economy Conference, March 11-13, 2019, at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C.
The conference, hosted by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC), is the national event for community, policy, government and business leaders who work for an inclusive economy that’s free of discrimination and full of opportunity.

Other speakers include University of Georgia Law Professor and author Meshrsa Baradaran; House Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Chair Representative Al Green, (D-Texas); House Subcommittee for Monetary Policy and Trade Representative Wm. Lacy Clay, (D-Missouri); and House Subcommittee on Consumer Protections and Financial Institutions Representative Gregory W. Meeks, (D-NY).
The conference attracts 1000+ attendees from across the nation. They include leaders of community organizations, national housing and financial policy leaders, academics, activists, bankers – and typically a strong contingent of organizers, policymakers, lawmakers and regulators. Federal Reserve board members and chairs, members of Congress, and national civil rights leaders have all participated. It’s an unusual mix.
“Members of Congress and 2020 presidential candidates are talking about inequality in housing, lending and pay, and so are community leaders who are on the front lines of doing something about it,” said NCRC CEO Jesse Van Tol. “The diversity of speakers at the Just Economy Conference reflects the wide range of leaders, organizations and industry sectors committed to making upward mobility a reality for more people.”
The schedule includes a mix of practical, inspirational and issue-oriented workshops, and keynote conversations with national leaders.
Other speakers include Dory Rand, president of the Woodstock Institute; Krista Shonk, vice president of Regulatory Compliance Policy, American Bankers Association; Oren Segal, director of the Center on Extremism, Anti-Defamation League; Marla Bilonick, CEO, Latino Economic Development Center-LEDC; Lisa Donner, executive director, Americans for Financial Reform; Nan Gibson, executive director of Public Policy & Corporate Responsibility, JPMorgan Chase; Rev. Dr. Terrence Keeling, president/CEO, Central Baptist Community Development Corporation; Ed Mierzwinski, senior director, Consumer Programs, U.S. PIRG; Heidi Zimmer,
Senior Vice President, Artspace; Ted Wysocki, CEO, Institute of Cultural Affairs; and Antoine M. Thompson, National Executive Director, National Association of Real Estate Brokers.
“It’s the most rewarding and compelling conference for community organizers, activists, bankers, entrepreneurs and national policy makers concerned about fairness in lending, housing and business,” Van Tol said.
